If I’m being honest, I was messing up on every other level in my life growing up – whether it was in school or in my jobs. I was always distracted by my love for music.
BRENT FAIYAZIf I’m being honest, I was messing up on every other level in my life growing up – whether it was in school or in my jobs. I was always distracted by my love for music.
BRENT FAIYAZI don’t wake up thinking about the genre of R&B as a whole. I just make music.
BRENT FAIYAZI started off making beats when I was like 12. Then when I linked with people who make beats full time, I was like, ‘Bet, now I can focus on writing and singing.’
BRENT FAIYAZDon’t stop until you get where you’re trying to go.
BRENT FAIYAZIn order for people to take what you say seriously, they have to know who you are as a person.
BRENT FAIYAZWe’re products of this world we were born into. We all battle our own demons. Everyone is troubled in the dark, but, please just stop & think about the babies. They’re gonna be here long after we leave.
BRENT FAIYAZThere’s the hype stuff that people love for five minutes and then there’s the stuff that changes cultures and shifts how you look at music. And then there’s that rare point where that hype stuff changes the game.
BRENT FAIYAZThe first couple of times I went out and heard my voice or heard people listening when I wasn’t the one playing it for them, it felt good.
BRENT FAIYAZI got a dog and am trying to elevate. I’m working out, eating healthier, reading books. Making ‘Make it Out Alive’ is going to be a reflection of all of that.
BRENT FAIYAZI mean, I wasn’t the best student in school. It would be different if I were to pursue music while I was already in school and doing things for my parents to be proud of and music was a side thing. Being that I dropped everything to do music, they was not with it.
BRENT FAIYAZI could always sing just playing around, but I ain’t want to be no singer. I thought that was lame.
BRENT FAIYAZI used to think that there was a certain way I had to stick to when it came to R&B, but now I’m saying whatever, the same way these rappers do. I’m bringing that into R&B music.
BRENT FAIYAZRapping was kind of hard. It’s so many words. When you sing you can kind of stretch the words out. I didn’t have to write as much as everybody else.
BRENT FAIYAZI probably talk to myself more than I talk to anyone.
BRENT FAIYAZMe and Goldlink have known of each other for a minute and our managers know each other so they set up a studio session. When we got in the studio, we was cool; we’re from the same area so we have a lot in common.
BRENT FAIYAZI recorded everywhere. I would go to different cities and do a session there for the project. I did sessions in New York and I did sessions in L.A. It was just kind of wherever I was and I felt like cutting a track.
