But I also feel like it’s the right of the people hearing them to have their own interpretations of what these songs mean. Sometimes people will see things that I don’t see.

ZOOEY DESCHANELNothing could be as hard as middle school.
ZOOEY DESCHANELThe internet’s like one big bathroom wall with a lot of people who anonymously can say really mean things. It’s fine, I believe in freedom of speech and I think people should think what they want, but I don’t care to hear it.
ZOOEY DESCHANELIt’s never too late for a coffee. After all it’s morning somewhere in the world.
ZOOEY DESCHANELThere’s a vegan and gluten-free bakery called BabyCakes that I love. They’ve got shops in New York and Los Angeles. Their stuff is amazing.
ZOOEY DESCHANELFor those of us who try to keep remembering, Try to do our better than our best. Think of all the children in the drifts of snow. Winners never quit, but winters never rest.
ZOOEY DESCHANELI love telling stories. I think of myself as a storyteller, and I don’t feel bound by being just a singer or an actress. First, I’m a storyteller, and history is stories – the most compelling stories.
ZOOEY DESCHANELI like a lot of old films, I like a lot old music, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that I like the idea of knowing what happens before, so that I can understand it.
ZOOEY DESCHANELI also feel like it’s the right of the people hearing them to have their own interpretations of what these songs mean. Sometimes people will see things that I don’t see.
ZOOEY DESCHANELOh my God, there are so many songs I wish I had written. ‘Waters of March,’ I wish I had written ‘My Baby Just Cares for Me,’ I wish I had written ‘This Will Be Our Year,’ I mean, there’s millions of them. ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice?’
ZOOEY DESCHANELWell, my piano’s really beautiful. I actually have two pianos. I have a Yamaha upright from the ’60s that’s blond, wood, and black, and I also have one from the ’20s from Chicago – not a well-known brand or anything.
ZOOEY DESCHANELI listened to a lot of Joni Mitchell in high school. She was sort of an inspiration to me. I think she’s a great lyricist, and she makes interesting choices.
ZOOEY DESCHANELI’d be more likely to go for somebody who is like me. Well, I like creative people, so whatever that means… Yeah, authentic and creative.
ZOOEY DESCHANELThere’s something about guitars, they’re just so big, you know what I mean? You’re just like, ‘Ugh!’ It just seems so overwhelming. And the ukulele is, like, the opposite of overwhelming.
ZOOEY DESCHANELIt’s nice that there are movies and songs about romance – it’s what motivates us as human beings. I’m all for being brainwashed by rom-coms.
ZOOEY DESCHANELOne of the things I love about doing things that are creative is that I feel like it’s my right as an artist not to be affected by the reactions of those people that are going to hear my songs.
