I’ve always straddled a weird line – there’s a lot of mainstream stuff that I love. At the same, I still feel like an outsider. I’m the outsider who’s on the inside.
I’ve been writing music since I was about eight. I would write sporadically. I wrote a lot of music in high school. I guess the oldest song on the record (“I Thought I Saw Your Face”) is about eight years old.
In making a record there are so fewer people involved – at least in our case. There were no more than three or four people in the studio at once. So I really feel like I can stand by everything on the record and say this is something that I personally endorse.
I always choose roles that are, you know, hopefully different from the last role. I don’t wanna do the same thing over and over again because that’s, well, first of all that’s no fun.
