In a democracy, everyone has a right to put forward one’s views. But people resorting to violent demonstrations in the name of Dalits are bound to be exposed.
Religion is a comprehensive concept. According to our learned people, our scholars, to pave the path for public welfare in worldly life and to provide spiritual uplift is part of religion. I think a yogi can do both things quite easily. And I manage to balance both worldly and spiritual concerns.
We are not intoxicated by power. We are concerned about the betterment of the poor, marginalised, oppressed, farmers, women, those living in villages, and every section of society.
The tradition that I come from has a great influence on Karnataka. Not just politically – it’s also my social and moral responsibility to draw citizens facing bad governance and lawlessness to a leadership that is capable of delivering good governance and development.
The BJP has decided that politics is for values and ideals, and for this, an age limit has been decided. I think that for democracy and for political parties, this is a good indicator. It will be good if all the political parties adhere to this, thereby strengthening India’s democracy.
I am not putting a check on anyone. I just have to say that India’s Constitution has given certain rights and freedom to people, but there are some limits, too.
