CrossFit is all about constantly-varied, high-intensity movements. And to do these movements, you have to have a certified coach to take you through this – or any type of physical activity.
For me, working out is a form of therapy. It’s cathartic for me; it’s a good stress reliever. I know that when I go to the gym I am taking care of myself, and I know I’ll feel so much better afterwards.
When I was first introduced to CrossFit, I found it to be the hardest workout that I’d ever done. It wiped the floor with me, and I fell in love with it immediately.
When you do these changes, you do these small changes every single day, and you trust the process of what you’re doing. You really do make lasting changes onto your body.
Since I started CrossFit, I’ve read and heard about the critics talk about how unsafe it is, and my only response to that is any form of exercise can be unsafe if you don’t have the proper coaching, education and guidance.
You need a good support system when you’re trying to make positive lifestyle changes. If everyone is eating burgers and fries while you’re having fish and salad, it’s easy to lose your willpower.
I don’t want anyone to ever put himself or herself in a box of, “I lost my second chance!” Because life brings you ebbs and flows, and if you miss out on this second chance, guess what, you’re going to get another one if you decide that you’re ready to have one.
By default I am the good parent. I’ve used my own personal experience. I came from a world where I was in need and starving for the good parent, so it’s like I’m bringing my own persona issues into that. I am the parent that I always wanted to have; that’s how I look at my role.
When I came out, when I was 17 years old, it was one of those things where I realized that there was going to be so many obstacles, but being gay doesn’t mean being weak. And being gay doesn’t mean that you are less than anybody else. It’s just who you are.
I wasn’t looking. I didn’t even think I had time for a dog, and then I met this little one and he needed help. It’s been so amazing to see him transform into a happy and confident companion.
There’s no finish line. That’s a big pill for people to swallow, Every single day for the rest of your life, you are going to have to make better food choices, and move around a bit more.
I found that people like rules, and I love to tell people what to do. It’s not rocket science when it comes to weight loss. It’s about eating a little less and moving a little bit more.
